Mid-summer greetings from Rev. Craig Tanksley
By Craig • Aug 10th, 2009 • Category: From the ClergyDear St. Mark’s Family,
As I write this letter the lower mainland is enduring sweltering, record-breaking heat. It is proving to be a summer to remember. I hope that you are staying cool and that you can find opportunities to enjoy these days with your family and friends.
It is wonderful to experience the different seasons of our congregational life as they unfold. Many ministries relax a bit during these months, but not altogether. Every morning there is a committed crew of workers who tend the gardens and paint the buildings. There is also a steadily unfolding transformation of storage spaces into something more modern, current and usable. We hope to dedicate these rooms, including our long awaited new library, in September.
The pastoral care for the sick, the elderly and shut-in members continues unabated through the combined efforts of a loving group of visitors and phone callers. Along with the ministry of your Priests, we provide a network of care. More than that, there is a small army of parishioners who thoughtfully and prayerfully look after for one another.
Our youth ministry has ramped up to a new level through the appointment of Lauren Smith as our Youth Ministry Coordinator. Our young people are taking full advantage of the summer to gather at water parks and on scavenger hunts for fun activities and fellowship. Pray for Lauren as she works together with our parents and volunteers to build an outstanding, Christ- centered youth program here at St. Marks.
Have you heard the buzz in the air about the Vacation Bible School African Safari taking place at the beginning of September? Or perhaps it is the screech of monkeys and trumpeting of elephants we are listening for. Our children will learn about the Lord’s Prayer in a profound and unforgettable journey. What fun! Spread the word and don’t wait too long to register. and unforgettable journey. What fun! Spread the word and don’t wait too long to register.
Pray for Jonathan when he serves as the Spiritual Theme Speaker to the Artaban Family Camp on August 22 - 28. Deanna will be giving musical support as well. Maybe it would be a wonderful opportunity for your family to spend some quality time in a fantastic island setting!
One more thing. In Deanna’s absence, Michael Dirk, a gifted and studied organist, will be our guest on Sundays. Mark you calendar for a special organ concert presented by Michael on Sunday August 23rd, at 7:30PM.
So you see the life of our congregation is going well. You are always in my thoughts and my prayers. I, along with Jonathan, am only a phone call away.
The Lord bless you and I will see you on Sunday!
