Christmas Greetings from Rev. Craig Tanksley

By Craig • Dec 9th, 2009 • Category: From the clergy

Dear St. Mark’s Family,

This morning I watched the sun rise over the mountains. It began with a painted sky, deep brilliant purples morphing into soft pinks, the telltale sign of what was to come. Then the fiery orb peaked over the tip of the mountains and slashed red glow over every thing in its path. It was vibrant, unstoppable and full of energy and promise for a new day.

The birth of Jesus Christ came upon us like the sun rise. It began with the slow promise of the prophets. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Micah, there are as many as three hundred prophecies about the coming of Jesus. They paint for us a rich coloured tapestry of anticipation. Then there came the glory of the Incarnate Son, tipping the horizon of humanity. Christ was born and the glory of his light shone upon us.

Peter wrote, “And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning ’star rises in your hearts.” (2 Peter 1:19)

May I encourage you not to miss the Son rise this Christmas? Had I not been there this morning watching and waiting, I might have missed it altogether. To help you anticipate, prepare for and celebrate the coming of Jesus, I am including an array of Christmas services that are planned for you and your family this December at St. Mark’s.

Finally, I want to wish you a blessed and holy Christmas this year. May the light of the newborn Son rise in your heart and fill your home with blessing and peace.

See you on Sunday,

Rev. Craig Tanksley
