Compline - A service of prayer, chant, meditation, and reflection
Compline or night prayer is a Christian Service dating back to monastic life in the Middle Ages. It is a contemplative offer that emphasizes spiritual peace.
Maundy Thursday, April 21st - 6:00PM
We will begin the evening with a community meal of soup and bread followed by the Seder celebration
The Seder is accompanied by commentary, prayers and songs. This ritual meal commemorates the loving kindness of God in the Exodus. It is a telling and an explanation to each generation. For us, both the Passover and Easter recognize that all things come from God: light, bread, wine and freedom. There is a spirit of thanksgiving and blessing. Christians celebrate their redemption from sin and the gift of God’s grace through the Eucharist. The symbols of the passover: haroset, matzos, greens, bitter herbs, and water with salt are explained.
Our evening continues in the Church with the Eucharist which commemorates Jesus’ institution of this sacrament at the Last Supper.
The evening concludes with the stripping of the Altar in preparation for Good Friday and in silence.

- 10:30AM Good Friday Day Service at St. Mark’s (no Communion). Seen as part of the larger celebration of the mystery of salvation, it is appropriate for Good Friday to be an austere time of reflection and intercession, as well as of the adoration of Christ, our sacrificial lamb.
- 10:30AM Good Friday Program for Children in the St. Mark’s Education Centre.
- 11:30AM - 12:30PM Stations of the Cross. The visual representations combined with prayer and meditation help deepen our understanding of the Way of the Cross. All are welcome to participate.
Holy Saturday, April 23rd - 7:30PM
The Great Easter Vigil
St. Mark’s will join with Holy Trinity Anglican Church for a Service of Light, Baptism and Holy Communion. Takes place at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 15115 Roper Avenue, White Rock, BC.
Holy Saturday is the final day of Holy Week, the final day of the traditional 40 days of Lent and commemorates Jesus lying in the tomb until his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Holy Saturday, the “day of the entombed Christ”, is the Lord’s day of rest, for on that day Christ’s body lay in His tomb. We recall the Apostles’ Creed, which says “He descended into hell.” It is the day of suspense between two worlds - that of darkness, sin and death and of Resurrection and the restoration of the Light of the World. For this reason, no services are held until Easter Vigil begins that night. The time between Good Friday and Easter Day presents us with the end of one world and the completion of God’s salvation in the Resurrection of Christ.
The Sunday of the Resurrection, April 24th - 8:00AM & 10:00AM
8:00AM - BCP Holy Communion Service
10:00AM - BAS Family Holy Communion Service and Special Easter Celebration for children
